IAGGs Finals – Day 3

2x Gold, 1x Silver

The 3rd and final day of competition here at the 17th International Age Group Games, Eindhoven in The Netherlands, sees Great Britain with representation in the finals for tumbling, trampoline and trampoline synchro.

Tom Lewis looked unhappy with his preliminary qualification round, so he had nothing to lose from competing first and everything to gain from the zero final.  Tom put in a fantastic performance, looking a lot better than his prelim scoring a massive 37.3!  The rest of the field crumbled and a very much dumb struck Tom found himself walking away with Gold!

We had 3 qualify for the tumbling 11-12; in the boys Shaun Gregory and in the girls Megan Green and Sharnah Evans.   Sharnah was first, but was unlucky to loose her footing and sit down at the end of her double tuck back.  Megan followed straight away and stuck her double pike back landing to take 2nd place with Sharnah 5th.  Shaun had to follow a number of Americans and a Russian in his group who had finished some excellent tumbles.  His tumble was strong but he just came in short for the full twisting double tuck back landing and dropped out the medals to 5th.

The synchro was the last event of the games.  Medal hopes were high with both boys’ pairs; Michael / Andrew Freeman, Luke Rendall / Tom Lewis and the girls Yasmin Gumbs / Danielle Pietruszka all making their finals.  Luke and Tom were the first pair to compete.  Luke had a narrow escape with the end mat and Tom accommodated the loss in height well to finish a well saved routine!  They were immediately followed by Michael and Andrew.  They competed another very well synchronised routine, only out slightly on the final skill.  For Danielle and Yasmin it wasn’t to be as Danielle travelled early on in he routine and was unable to continue.  They dropped down to 5th.  For the boys, Andrew and Michael made it Gold for two consecutive International Age Groups running with Tom and Luke finishing 4th.
